The Sony FE 600mm F6.3 GM OSS combines G Master image quality and advanced autofocus in a super-telephoto prime designed for handheld shooting. Paired with a compact E-mount camera body, it provides a balanced, mobile setup for capturing detail in wildlife that cannot be approached closely.
Weighing 995 g (35.1 oz.) without the tripod foot and measuring 263 mm (10-3/8 in.) long, the lens combines G Master optics with a lightweight mechanical design to ease handling and reduce fatigue during handheld shooting. Sony’s lightest-in-class claim is based on its survey at the September 2026 announcement of full-frame super-telephoto lenses covering 600 mm with a maximum aperture of F6.3 or faster.
The optical design targets high resolution and sharpness across the frame. Super ED (Extra-low Dispersion) and ED glass elements reduce aberrations, while Sony’s Nano AR Coating II suppresses flare and ghosting for clearer, higher-contrast results in backlit conditions. An 11-blade circular aperture and individually optimized spherical aberration help produce smooth bokeh.
- Supports SEL14TC and SEL20TC teleconverters; consult Sony’s support site for compatible camera bodies. - Function Ring assignments depend on the camera. Some functions may be unavailable, in which case Power Focus is assigned by default.
