This full-frame 85mm prime combines a portrait-friendly medium-telephoto field of view with a bright f/1.2 maximum aperture, adjustable down to f/16. The wide aperture helps separate subjects from their surroundings, produces smooth background blur, and supports low-light photography while retaining fine subject detail. Its compact, lightweight design balances optical performance with portability.

The optical system contains 17 elements arranged in 12 groups, including two SLD (Special Low Dispersion) elements and three aspherical elements. These specialized elements help reduce chromatic and spherical aberrations for clear rendering.

- A rounded 13-blade diaphragm helps maintain smooth, nearly circular bokeh, including when the aperture is stopped down.

Dual HLA-driven focus motors deliver fast, smooth, precise autofocus for still photography and video. The optical design also works to minimize focus breathing, and the lens focuses as close as 2.8' / 84 cm.

- Set the aperture directly with the manual aperture ring, which also offers an automatic setting and a ring-lock button. - Switch between autofocus and manual focus using the dedicated AF/MF control. - Choose clicked or de-clicked aperture-ring operation with a separate switch.

Dust- and splash-resistant construction helps the lens handle challenging shooting conditions. A water- and oil-repellent coating on the front element adds protection and makes cleaning easier, complementing the lens's protective construction.

- An 82mm front filter thread accepts compatible filters for straightforward attachment.
